Natural Healing For Alcoholism – it works

A Canadian doctor plus the founder of AA used a protocol to successfully heal people from addiction to alcohol.

This effective cure which uses non-toxic natural healing has been either suppressed or deliberately avoided by mainstream medical practitioners.

The American Psychiatric Association and physicians in general recognize their limited ability to deal adequately with alcoholism by referring sufferers to a lay support organisation, Alcoholics Anonymous [A.A.]. Unfortunately, AA has limited itself by sidestepping nutrition. …. The co-founder of AA, Bill W., was treated by Dr. Hoffer in 1958 and into the 1960s. Bill found great benefit from a nutritional approach, repeated this success among many of his friends and associates, and despite great efforts, he was unable to influence the [ medical members (doctors} of the AA board ] towards broadening its approach.”

Donald R. Davis, PhD., Austin Texas. Page ix, of The Vitamin Cure For Alcoholism

The drug companies cannot make money from it because the natural healing agents cannot be patented and sold for mega bucks; therefore this effective healing process has never been promoted or used by mainstream medicine.

If you or someone you know is ill and dependent on alcohol I urge you to read on. Note this works for other addictions also – for example smoking and sugar addiction.

Abram Hoffer M.D., PhD

Abram Hoffer MD was a practicing medical doctor in Canada with a specialty in psychiatry. He worked for the Saskatchewan state government at the city of Saskatoon. He worked at the hospital and due to his specialty he given the task of treating patients with diagnosed mental illnesses ranging from depression to schizophrenia and addictions.

Go here to the website for orthomolecular medicine to read about the doctors and scientists who have proven the effectiveness of natural cures for diseases including Dr. Abram Hoffer.

He became aware of the significance of nutritional deficits on peoples health in the course of his training. He learned that a vitamin C deficit causes a serious disease named scurvy and how the pellagra disease epidemic was caused by lack of the B vitamins and in particular vitamin B3. He also read the few published papers about the use of vitamin B3 to successfully treat people suffering from the diagnosed psychiatric illnesses of depression, bipolar and schizophrenia.

He became very interested in the idea that many illnesses were the result of nutritional deficits – the lack of certain vitamins and minerals – which cause people’s neurological systems to malfunction and this manifested as mental illnesses and addictions.

The pellagra disease reached epidemic proportions in North America from the 1900s to the early 1940ies. The symptoms were dermatitis, diarrhea, dementia and then death – it was called the four Ds by the medical profession who were unable to treat it and did not know the cause.

100,000s suffered from this and over 30,000 died from it.

In the early 1940ies it was discovered that the disease was caused by a deficit of B vitamins and in particular vitamin B3.

The USA government made it compulsory for vitamin B and iron to be added to white flour. Advances in flour milling in the late 1890ies made possible the bulk production of white flour from which all nutrition had been removed with the exception of simple carbohydrate and a low level of minerals.

The mental illness symptoms of pellagra/ severe vitamin B shortage ranged from fatigue to depression to bipolar disorder to schizophrenia – delusion and psychosis.

Abram Hoffer applied his knowledge of how nutritional deficits cause disease to successfully treat people with depression, alcohol dependency and other additions, bipolar disorder and schizophrenia.

He also had great success curing the effects of Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome [PTSD].

He first helped the survivors of WW 2 prison camp atrocities recover from severe anxiety and depression that had plagued their lives since being freed from the camps. He then went on to cure other sufferers of PTSD over the course of his medical career.

Bill W.

“Bill Wilson is the greatest social architect of the 20th century” – Aldous Huxley

Bill W. [ William Griffith Wilson, 1895-1971] co-founded Alcoholics Anonymous. He stopped drinking alcohol but suffered from fatigue, depression and anxiety while he remained sober.

He met Dr. Abram Hoffer who told Bill about the effect of vitamin B3 in curing anxiety and depression. Bill took vitamin B3 in the form of Niacin, 3000mg per day in three divided doses after meals.

Within a few weeks Bill’s fatigue, anxiety and depression were gone and never returned as long as he supplemented daily with B3 and vitamin B complex.

Bill was amazed and went on to recommend this treatment to other alcoholics. His first attempt cured 20 out of the thirty who tried it. He went to the medical members of the board of AA to advise them of the result and to get them to recommend the treatment for all AA members.

The medical board members refused to endorse the treatment of alcohol addiction with Vitamin B3 and B complex.

Bill was disappointed but went on to make and distribute pamphlets and booklets about how to cure alcohol addiction with vitamin supplements and good nutrition. It was a process that worked for him and other alcohol dependents.

It is natural healing for alcohol addiction that works

Dependency Syndrome

It has been discovered that where a vitamin deficiency has been experienced for a very long time then larger amounts of the vitamin are needed to effect a cure and the sufferer needs to continue to take the vitamin and or mineral supplements to prevent a relapse of the illness.

This was first observed with the treatment of pellagra sufferers. Some sufferers recovered quickly with vitamin B3 supplementation whereas others needed greater amounts and needed to continue to take it to remain well.

This reflected the different needs of people and correlated to the length of time they had been short of vitamin B3. Those who suffered from pellagra for the longest period where more ill and needed greater amounts of B3 to heal and needed to take it for the rest of their days to avoid a relapse to states of fatigue, anxiety and depression or worse.

The same effect was found with sufferers of Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome [ PTSD]. They required greater amounts of vitamin B3 for a longer time to heal from anxiety and depression; and needed to take it every day to avoid relapsing into anxious and depressed states.

Ongoing supplementation maybe necessary and is recommended to avoid relapses when recovery from an illness takes months and even several years plus supplementation of up to 3000 mg of vitamin B3 per day.

The good news is that vitamin B3 is completely safe at divided doses of up to 3000 mg per day. It has been proven to work and has no toxic side effects. If anyone says this is not the case it is a lie.

Safety Of Vitamins

No one in the last twenty years has died from taking vitamins.

In contrast, every year 80,000 people die from the toxic side effects of taking medicines properly prescribed by their M.Ds.

Others die from errors in prescriptions and from pain killers that are highly addictive.

No one has ever died from an overdose of vitamins. This is data from US poison control center annual data.

Doctor Yourself – Natural Healing That Works, pp372-374, AW Saul, Ph.d, Basic Health Publications,2013

“Over a twenty-eight year period, vitamin supplements have been alleged to have caused the deaths of a total of 11 people in the USA.

A new analysis of US Poison control center annual report data indicates that there have, in fact, been no deaths whatsoever from vitamins… none at all, in the 28 years since such reports have been available.

If anyone claims that someone has died from the effects of taking vitamins it is a lie.

Natural Cure For Acohol Dependency

The publication : The vitamin Cure For Alcoholism, A.Hoffer, M.D.,PhD, A.W. Saul PhD, Basic Health,2009

details the history, the clinical notes and the details of natural cures for addiction to alcohol.

This book is the A to Z of using natural cures for addiction, anxiety and psychoses related to alcohol and schizophrenia.

The focus is upon using vitamin and mineral supplementation in addition to improving nutrition in general.

For vitamin and mineral supplementation the focus is on the B vitamins plus supplementation with extra vitamin B3.

The publication :

The Orthomolecular Treatment Of Chronic Disease – 65 Experts on Therapeutic and Preventive Nutrition, A.W. Saul PhD editor, Basic Health Publications, 2014

This publication also gives clinical reports and protocols for effectively treating the diseases of addiction and psychosis arising from malnutrition. A deficit of B vitamins and especially B3. The same vitamin deficit that caused the pellagra disease. The symptoms of which included a range of mental ill health from fatigue to depression and at the extreme end psychosis – bipolar and schizophrenia states- and finally dementia.

The B Vitamins

Vitamin B1 – thiamine

Crucial for energy processing, the mitchondria in body cells and the nervous system function. Proven in clinical studies to improve mood and energy.

Vitamin B2 – riboflavin

Reacts with other B group vitamins to enhance sense of well-being and mitochondria function

Vitamin B3 as niacin

Proven antidepressant function and significantly lowers levels of bad cholesterol. Necessary for the body to produce the NAD enzyme for cell health and stem cell action to replace old or damaged cells. Effective anti-inflammatory for auto-immune dysfunction

Vitamin B3 as niacinamide

Same as for niacin but does not have the benefit of reducing cholesterol levels, however high cholesterol levels DO NOT cause cardio-vascular disease/atherosclerosis. People with low cholesterol levels still die from cardiovascular disease and atherosclerosis. There is no science that proves high cholesterol = heart disease. Ask for the data – there is none. Its purely a correlation wrongly pushed as a cause.

Vitamin B6

essential for the creation of dopamine, norepinephrine, serotonin, thiamine, tryptamine, taurine, histamines and GABA. A cofactor in cellular level enzyme reactions. B complex is a source.

Folic Acid

Part of the B complex nutrition regime. See sources in the bibliography for more detailed effects and use.

Vitamin B12 – cobalamin

A deficiency causes anemia and nervous system issues. Got from animal based foods. Vegans and vegetarians could be lacking. Some people are unable to get sufficient vitamin B 12 by digestion and thus suffer from anemia and mental fog/fatigue. They require injections of B12 to remain healthy – a blood test will show if this is necessary. This can affect both children and adults.

Supplementation with the B vitamin complex is a natural healing method which has been proven to be effective by the case studies of doctors who have used it.

For the use of this vitamin cure to be effective the individual needs to stop drinking alcohol. The supplementation consists of vitamin B complex plus additional vitamin B3 up to 3,000 mg per day in three divided doses after a meal.

It  is also important to supplement with vitamin C – often heavy drinkers are very low in vitamin and this deficit inhibits their recovery. Vitamin D is also used to prevent depression.

The minerals selenium, zinc, chromium and magnesium have also been included in the treatment as key healing elements.

A lot of alcoholics do not eat much at all let alone nutritious food.

A diet without sugar, white flour [ processed foods made from white flour], fruit juices [ high in sucrose and fructose], corn fructose will reduce the sugar toxicity quickly and can be replace with complex carbohydrates, in small amounts to reduce the craving for sugar.

Sugar in all forms is toxic to our metabolism and the drastic rise in consumption over the last 120 years is causing the epidemics of obesity and diabetes and heart disease. Not to mention behavioral issues with children and juvenile obesity and diabetes.

A ketogenic type diet, low in carbohydrates, will provide lots of good protein and greens to rebuild body health.

Meals alone will not provide the vitamins required to heal alcoholics and sufferers of other addictions. The supplementation of B vitamins is central to their return to health and freedom from the addiction. For vitamin B3 the intake needs to be at least 3,000 mgs per and for those with severe withdrawal or DTs it could be up to 6000 mgs per day initially to bring stability and coherence.
